পঢ়ক গৰিমা শইকীয়া গাৰ্গৰ সম্পূৰ্ণ পোষ্টঃ We place this note before the people of Assam, the Government of Assam, and all who loved Zubeen Garg, in the spirit of transparency, dignity, and truth.
From the moment we lost Zubeen Garg on 19th September 2025 in Singapore, our family has lived in a state of shock, grief, and profound personal trauma. The loss was sudden, devastating, and emotionally paralysing. In those first critical days, our family was deeply grieving and was not in a state to take immediate legal steps. Only when, after a few days the yacht videos of Singapore surfaced in social media and television, the family came to know that the death was not normal and several suspicions arised from the visuals. Then immediately we filed an FIR for formal legal action.
Eventually, Singapore police also initiated an inquiry from their side and time to time communicated with our family. We also provided full cooperation, informations and our statements in this regard to them. However, since that investigation was done from a different country and within their mendate, they were doing the process, all these communication parts with SPF, we didn’t publicize or upload in social media to respect the integrity of the investigation.
It is important to note that:
1) Singapore Authorities Initiated Proceedings Suo Motu :
Immediately after the incident, the Singapore Police and authorities initiated an enquiry on their own and commenced investigation. The Indian High Commission in Singapore was actively involved in coordinating all legal and medical processes, including the post-mortem examination.
2) Full Faith in the law of the land :
We expressed complete faith in the Indian legal system. Even the Singapore post-mortem report was not received directly by the family, although Singapore Police had contacted us, it was formally requested to be transmitted through the Indian High Commission, so that all proceedings remained within the framework of sovereign coordination between the two countries.
3) FIR and Investigation in Assam :
Once my medical condition permitted, me and my family lodged an FIR with CID, Assam. The Government of Assam constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The SIT Chief and a team of senior officers travelled to Singapore as part of the investigation. After months of inquiry, Assam Police filed a charge sheet exceeding 2,500 pages and, based on the evidences collected, invoked sections relating to murder.
4) Continuous Follow-Up in Both Jurisdictions :
Our family has remained in constant engagement with authorities in both the countries. We have never withdrawn, paused, or diluted our pursuit of truth. We have cooperated fully with every agency, supplied all information available to us through emails, video conferencing and sometimes through whatsapp messages when they asked for it .. we also attended proceedings whenever called.
5) Participation in Singapore Coroner’s Court proceedings on Jan 14, 2026.
A detailed statement was submitted before the Honourable Coroner in Singapore by a senior family member of our family _Mr Manoj Kumar Borthakur(uncle) on Jan 14th with the help of two state Prosecutors present. It placed on record specific factual questions regarding:
• The planning of the outing on that fateful day
• Zubeen’s physical and medical condition at the time
• Safety measures on the yacht
• The circumstances in which he entered the sea
• The words spoken at that moment
• The response of the people around him in the yacht when he showed visible distress..
. The negligence so clearly visible in the videos circulating in social media all over the world.
• The timing and adequacy of medical assistance
• The scope of the finding of “no foul play”.
These questions arise automatically and they are a family’s right and duty when a life ends suddenly under unclear circumstances.
6) Appeal to the Government of India and Government of Assam :
We respectfully urge the Government of India and the Government of Assam to:
• Monitor the proceedings in the Singapore Coroner’s Court at the highest level
• Take all necessary diplomatic and legal steps to ensure that every relevant fact is placed before the Court
• Pursue expeditious and effective prosecution in India on the basis of the charge sheet already filed
• Ensure that neither jurisdiction becomes an excuse for delay or dilution.
We wish to state unequivocally:
Our family have explored every lawful avenue available to them. There will be no hesitation and no compromise. Every step has been taken with diligence, dignity, and faith in the law of the land.
Zubeen was not merely a member of our family. He belonged to Assam. He belonged to its people, its music, and its emotional memory. Hence, it is important to understand the anguish of millions who want answers.
We continue to seek only one thing:
That the entire truth—every action taken, every word spoken, every moment lost—be fully and transparently examined and the guilty is punished to the highest level, and for that we will walk every legal path available—solemnly, consistently, and in good faith.
